The Koneswaram Temple in Trincomalee is one of the five sacred abodes of Shiva, perched on Swami Rock with the Indian Ocean 100 metres below. Partly demolished by Portuguese colonisers in 1624, a submerged section was later recovered from the sea. Its cliff-top setting creates a visually striking and spiritually charged temple experience.
